Connecting Connect Champions (Part 1)

This would be the first "official" post on the Shalom blog and I guess the ball is rolling a little faster now. Hopefully it will gain more momentum as we digest words and encouragement given to us at the EFCC Leader Summit (5-7 June 2009) in Fettes Park Baptist Church, Penang.

It may be rather funny starting the blog with nothing related to prison work, lets just stick to the idea for a while. We'll just treat this as an introduction.

I am sure the other champions will be blogging about the happenings during the summit. An example would be here, here and ... and ... maybe not that many yet.

Like what was mentioned in one of the small group blogs, it was a great experience to meet up with 1. other champions (team leader, growth, connect, bridge, prayer, men's, women's champion) and 2. other groups in the same area of ministry (children, visitation, elderly, prison and justice).

Meeting up and coming together shows me that the Externally Focused Church movement is not a stagnant movement and it is God who architects this movement and we are beginning to see the pieces of the puzzle coming together.

Alright, I confess this is far too much talking for an introduction, so lets just get down to business shall we?

Connecting Connect Champions - cheesy title, maybe, but before answering the questions given to us when we were broken into groups, the general idea was/is that we are the center of the dissemination of information from the various groups across the country, we disseminate information from the various champions within our group ...

But that doesn't mean we don't do any work, and neither are we supposed to be doing everything. We are in a small group and everyone contributes.

A more formal definition of the connect champion as follow:

Connect Champion - helps to make everyone feel welcome. He/She is also responsible for connecting with other EFSGs in their area and sharing information in order to prevent any duplication of projects.

Part 2 will list the details as part of the answers we came out with during our discussion at the recent summit.

So, what connecting was done? The simple answer, discussion, read the second part and you will understand why connect champions also need connecting.
